Elkem's definition of Corporate Responsibility is based on the UN Global Compact and focuses on four main principles:

- Ensuring basic human rights
- Workers’ rights as employees
- Consideration for the environment and the sustainable use of natural resources

The four principles

1.1) Ensuring basic human rights means that we:

• Respect the individual's privacy, personal dignity and rights.
• Promote equality for all people and do not accept discrimination based on skin colour, race, nationality, social background, disability, sexual orientation, political or religious conviction, gender or age
• Do not tolerate any form of harassment or physical/mental abuse in the form of words or actions
